Frequently Asked Questions
We know visiting a church for the first time can feel like a big step. Whether you're exploring faith, returning to church after some time away, or simply looking for a place to belong, we're glad you're here. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
What should I expect when I visit?
If you come to any of our church services or events you can expect a warm welcome and a friendly community. Everything we do is designed to help people connect with God and with one another, regardless of where they are on their faith journey. If you're nervous about coming for the first time, get in touch with us before hand and we'd be happy to talk to you.
What sort of church is this?
Our churches are part of The Church of England, also known as Anglican churches. Our three churches make up a group of churches called "The Benefice of The Boldons" (Benefice basically means group). We are part of The Diocese of Durham.
What should I wear?
Come as you are. You'll find people dressed in everything from jeans and trainers to smart/casual. We care more about meeting you than what you're wearing.
How long are your services?
This depends on which service you're coming to, but normally our services last about one hour (some are a bit shorter, some a little longer). They include worship, prayer and a message from the Bible.
Do I need to be a Christian to attend?
Not at all. Everyone is welcome. Whether you're curious about Christianity, asking questions about faith, or have been following Jesus for years, we'd love to have you join us.
What is available for children and young people?
Children and young people are welcome at all our services and events.
Our Messy Church gathering is specifically aimed at Children and Young People. At Grace Church we have a provision alongside our main service called Grace Youth for Children and Young People where they can learn about Christianity and explore what their own faith means to them.
Are you dog friendly?
Absolutely! We love welcoming four-legged visitors. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join us, provided they stay on a lead and are comfortable around people and do not disrupt the service/event for others. We just ask owners to be considerate of others and clean up after their furry friends.
We can provide fresh water for your dog.
If you attend a service or event at one of our churches you may well meet Rev Paul's dog Maisie.
Do you offer support during difficult times?
Yes. We believe no one should walk through life's challenges alone. We are available to provide prayer, encouragement, and practical support when needed. We have a bereavement team and you can find out about their work and ministry here.
How can I learn more about becoming a Christian?
If you're interested in learning more about Jesus or beginning a relationship with Him, we'd love to talk with you. Speak with one of our ministers after a service or contact us anytime to arrange an informal one to one chat.
If you're exploring faith for the first time then a great place to start is by coming along to Grace Church.
I can't come along in person, can I join in online?
Yes. Whilst we would prefer to connect with you in person, we understand for a variety of reasons that's not always possible. Each week we have a pre recorded online service which you can watch from 10am live on our YouTube Channel. Find out more here.
How can I serve?
There are many opportunities to use your gifts and talents to make a difference. Whether you enjoy welcoming guests, working with children, caring for our building, serving behind the scenes, or helping in the community, there's a place for you. Contact us to discuss how you might like to get involved.
How is the church funded?
Our church is supported through the generous giving of those who call this church home. Giving enables us to serve our community, support ministry initiatives, and share the message of Jesus locally and globally. We do not receive funding from the state or the central church. If you would like to financially support the work of the church you can find out how to here.
Can I request prayer?
Absolutely. We would be honoured to pray for you. Prayer requests can be submitted online or shared with a member of our ministry team in person at one of our services.
Can I hire the church?
Yes, our churches and halls are available to hire. See the hire information page on this website.
Still have questions?
